Good Afternoon Everyone,

I am excited today because I will be receiving a makeover at the Lancome` counter at Bon Ton.  This is so exciting for me.  A national makeup artist who has done the make up for Paris Hilton will give me tips and ideas for improvement.  His name is Emanuel.

Debbie at the Lancome` counter and I get along so well.  She is very friendly and always engages me when I stop in to Bon Ton.  I love the perfume Tresor` and spritz myself whenever I am in there.  If she is there I always greet her and inevitably she is putting something new on me and I like it!
So the last time she signed me up for a makeover.   I never had a makeover!  First time for everything.

Today, when I stopped in to the Guidance office to see my friend Louise, she paid me the sweetest compliment.  Louise said, Marialyce, you smell nice....fresh as a Daisy!   It touched my heart.  My Mom used to say to me, Marialyce I always want to smell nice, please promise me as I get older that you make sure I am always sweet smelling.  Dad and I always made sure that Mom smelled good.  Nothing like soap and water....unless of course it is soap and water and Tresor`  Ha Ha! (I requested the same consideration from Shawn and Lindsay)

When I was seventeen, Dad said, Marialyce what is that perfume you are wearing?...I said oh Daddy, it's Halston.  I was feeling pretty cute, I remember.   He said, don't ever wear that again....It does not smell good on you.   OH MY!  I never wore that again!!!

Later in life, I found Tresor` and now I never wear any other fragrance.  Veronica Hilferty told me years ago, when she was a little girl and gave me a hug...."Mrs. Keane you always have the sweetest smell."  I am thankful that I remember the compliments as well as the criticisms in life....they help me to grow and be the best that I can be.

The olfactory sense is one of my most acute senses.  Smells evoke fond memories and can be bonding.  My girls have been known to take Jim's t-shirt and put it up to the face, just to smell his scent.  They love the smell of Jim and it always makes them happy.  It is kind of funny.... I do know what they mean.

What is your favorite scent?   What is your favorite sense?  Think about it.....I challenge you!
Are you moved by what you see, hear, taste, touch, or smell?  Be specific.

My favorite sense is my auditory sense.  Music moves me.   I have been listening to Simply Red...You've Got It.    And Journey.... I'll Be Alright Without You.   I will post the links.

I realized recently that I missed out on some great music in the late 80's.  I was caring for my girls and listening to Sharon Lois and Bramm, The Elephant Show.   I missed out on Steve Perry and Mick Hucknall.

So perhaps you will listen along with me.... and go back to that era of great music.  Tim and Anita, Jim and I went to the Keswick on Sunday to see Boz Scaggs. It was our Mother's Day gift from our husbands.  Such a delightful concert.  I felt like I was 17 again.   Music evokes such sweet memories.

Here are the links....

And so, my wish for you today is that you discover your favorite sense and are moved by whatever you experience using that sense.    Ahhhhh  a sensual experience....nothing like it!

Good Morning Friends,

Last evening I gave an inspirational talk to the Family and Consumer Science teachers of Bucks and Montgomery Counties at the Blair Mill Inn in Horsham.  I was happy to meet all the teachers and share in their evening.  When it came time for my part of the evening sharing thoughts on positive attitudes and positive energy, I happily began to speak.

I can not adequately express the joy I felt in my heart to speak publicly.  I do believe it is my calling in life. My dream continues to come true.  I get this rush of adrenaline and I feel as though I can control the tone of the moment and I am able to illicit their undivided attention and affect them in a positive way.  As I was speaking, I simultaneously thought to myself, why are they listening so intently.    What is that something that holds their attention.

I met this person who shared two thoughts with me that I have come to adopt.  The first was a story and the second was a french term.  I absolutely love learning something new that is applicable to my life.  The first one I will share with you, is a story that I shared with everyone last evening.

There were two mice who fell into a bucket of cream.  They began to paddle.  The first mouse quickly gave up paddling and drowned.  The second mouse, paddled feverishly and continually persevering, churning the cream into butter and then walked out.   I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Marialyce Keane and I am the second mouse.

When I shared this story the people in the room were so attentive.  I knew it was a great opening.  I am grateful to my new friend for sharing this with me.

I also learned the term  Je Ne Sais Quoi.  This is a French term defined as an indefinable, illusive quality. That certain something that one possesses that is captivating.  It is a charming and pleasing quality.  I love this.  You have a certain, je ne sais quoi!

So it was wonderful to live my dream last evening...continuing on my journey through life and affecting others in a positive way. A few people approached me afterward and shared their sentiments and appreciation. I am very grateful that my experiences in life have led me to this moment.  I feel so alive.

I am thankful for the opportunity to give two more talks in the next few weeks.  I look forward to sharing my thoughts with others.

And so, my wish for you today is that you are able to live your dream, whatever it may be.  That you have the opportunity to feel that you have something to contribute to others.  I love the feeling of giving, of being of service.  It makes me feel needed and worthwhile in my life.

Good Morning Everyone,

The ducks are in our courtyard here at school.  They are loud and distracting and I love their sound!  Chuckling.  It is not a good idea to have them quacking when our students are trying to learn.  Perhaps I can teach the ducks when to be quiet.  Behavior modification!

I read this principle recently about how to have sustaining, life giving, wonderful relationships.  I decided to share this with all of you.  Who wouldn't want to have a great relationship with everyone in their lives.  Who wouldn't want to know the secret for being able to be compatible with others that you live with, work with, and who you come in contact with, everyday.  I believe that this may be a great resolution to adopt and master....  Let me know what you think!

The  100/0 PRINCIPLE ~ Al Ritter

What is the most effective way to create and sustain great relationships with others? It's The 100/0 Principle: You take full responsibility (the 100) for the relationship, expecting nothing (the 0) in return.

Implementing The 100/0 Principle is not natural for most of us. It takes real commitment to the relationship and a good dose of self-discipline to think, act and give 100 percent.

The 100/0 Principle applies to those people in your life where the relationships are too important to react automatically or judgmentally. Each of us must determine the relationships to which this principle should apply. For most of us, it applies to work associates, customers, suppliers, family and friends.

STEP 1 - Determine what you can do to make the relationship work...then do it. Demonstrate respect and kindness to the other person, whether he/she deserves it or not.

STEP 2 - Do not expect anything in return. Zero, zip, nada.

STEP 3 - Do not allow anything the other person says or does (no matter how annoying!) to affect you. In other words, don't take the bait.

STEP 4 - Be persistent with your graciousness and kindness. Often we give up too soon, especially when others don't respond in kind. Remember to expect nothing in return.

At times (usually few), the relationship can remain challenging, even toxic, despite your 100 percent commitment and self-discipline. When this occurs, you need to avoid being the "Knower" and shift to being the "Learner." Avoid Knower statements/thoughts like "that won't work," "I'm right, you are wrong," "I know it and you don't," "I'll teach you," "that's just the way it is," "I need to tell you what I know," etc.

Instead use Learner statements/thoughts like "Let me find out what is going on and try to understand the situation," "I could be wrong," "I wonder if there is anything of value here," "I wonder if..." etc. In other words, as a Learner, be curious!

Principle Paradox

This may strike you as strange, but here's the paradox: When you take authentic responsibility for a relationship, more often than not the other person quickly chooses to take responsibility as well. Consequently, the 100/0 relationship quickly transforms into something approaching 100/100. When that occurs, true breakthroughs happen for the individuals involved, their teams, their organizations and their families.

I am adopting this principle TODAY!

And so, my wish for you today is that you have not only a wonderful day, but that you have great relationships with everyone important to you in your life.   You now know the secret to making it happen.

Good Morning,

I think this week is finally the beginning of Spring.  Oh the Joy of Springtime.  A time of new beginnings.   How many of you have heard the saying.....  "A reason, a season or a lifetime?"   People come in to our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.  We should always be grateful when we cross  paths in life with someone, and try to figure out their purpose for us in our lives. What are we suppose to receive from them, what are we suppose to give to them?   There are no coincidences in life.  Everything happens for a reason.  If something happens with regard to a relationship with another, it is always important to learn the lesson.    I have been thinking about this message and lo and behold the following video clip popped up in my email.  I want to share it with all of you, because I think that I am supposed to do so.  Perhaps the message is only for me, but I can't help but think we are all connected in some way, and at some point, ALL WILL BE REVEALED!   Oh the Joy of that day, knowing that we will finally see the Tapestry of our Lives in all its glory.   I know for certain, that all of you will be the gold thread that is pervasive throughout the beautiful masterpiece that I am blessed to call......My Life.

And so, here is the video clip, and perhaps you will consider the people that you cross paths with in life.  Did they come into your life, for a reason, for a season and are they there to teach you a life lesson?  Please consider paying close attention.

Good Morning Everyone,

April 1..... NO JOKE!   Ha Ha!....  It is hard to believe that it is already April and it feels like it is still winter.

I just viewed a video clip from the Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith.  I never saw the movie but I think I will put it on my TO DO LIST for this Summer.    It shows the difference that another human being can make in the life of someone.  And it also underscores the importance of living a life of gratitude and doing your best no matter what the circumstances.  People notice when you consistently attempt to do your best.

Have you ever known a happy person who wasn't grateful, or a grateful person that wasn't happy?  Perhaps a way to look at this is that happiness is a result of gratitude.  The wonderful thing about this is we can choose to be happy in spite of the situations that befall us.  We can always choose to be grateful, which results in happiness.

Yesterday we spent the day with our family.  Easter Sunday.... what a glorious day!  I am grateful that I have a wonderful family.  I am grateful that Kevin and Judy planned and executed another spectacular time shared for all of us.

Here is the link to the video clip from The Pursuit of Happyness.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bklNWWoJyzE

And so, my wish for you this day is that you pursue happiness....and if happiness eludes you, consider that it is because your perspective is off.  Express your gratitude for everything, even the gifts that are perceived as crosses to bear in life.

Good Morning Everyone,

Time is escaping me.  I want the clock to stand still.....and yet, simultaneously, I can't wait for the Spring weather.   Our club THE PRIDE, is going well and we are expanding.  We had Induction on Friday and 33 new members were Inducted between both schools.  Our school had 14 Inducted.  I am very Proud to be among such fine individuals.

We had a guest speaker at our meeting of THE PRIDE on Thursday and the topic was Persevere.  How strong are you in the face of hardship and adversity?  I was looking up video clips to highlight this talk during Advisory last week and came across this video clip.  I am providing the link for you..The title is Successful Failures.  The difference between success and failure is the belief that you will succeed and the will to try.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r47UqYMDN2k

Someone shared this story with me recently and said, Marialyce, please consider including it as an anecdote to your speeches.

There were two mice who fell into a bucket of cream.  They were swimming trying to get out.  One mouse gave up trying and drowned.  The second mouse kept swimming and swimming churning the cream into butter and then eventually walked out of the bucket.   My friend said, Marialyce, you are the second mouse. You persevere.   Wow, that was an extraordinary moment for me and oh so empowering.  I am very thankful for my trusted friends who empower me and lift me up!

And so, my wish for you today is that you find the strength to Persevere with whatever struggles come your way, knowing that you have trusted friends who are thankful for the gift you are in their life.

Good Morning Everyone,

I received this email that I am copying and sending it to you, because it affects me on so many levels. Think about the person that needs your help. Think about how you are life giving to them. Wow, what a gift you are in their lives. What a gift you are in my life. I always feel so good about myself when I do something for another, that sometimes I forget to take care of me. I don't seem to get the same rush as when I do for others. However, I am working on it. Being a caregiver comes naturally to women, I think. The nurturing, caring, loving attributes, the soft skills are what make us actually so strong. Having constitutional strength is honed, I believe. I want to share Winston Churchill's quotation on Excellence.

Excellence is... caring more than others think is wise, risking more that others think is safe; dreaming more that others think is practical. Expecting more than others think is possible.
~Winston Churchill

As women, I believe that we are unstoppable. We are champions. A champion does what no one else can do. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BEING A WOMAN! THANK YOU GOD!

And so, on this day I wish you, my dear friend, unparallelled excellence!

En`Joy,

Marialyce

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Shawn showed me this today...Kid President.  I am using it this week as an illustration for The Pride.
Check it out....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-gQLqv9f4o

The topic this week is WORTH....  What is your worth as a human being?  Do you feel valued, important and needed in your life?  Truth is, these feelings of worth are what everyone truly needs in life, even more so than love.  So, I hope you enjoy this message.  I think this kid is phenomenal.  So does Barack Obama!

I had a great weekend.  Joey and George were here for a 24 hour whirlwind. My nephews are 2 and 4.   They run, everywhere.  Are extremely fast, and bright and intelligent boys.  I love them.   Joey told me last year, Aunt Mar, you are so pretty.  Then he told me a few months ago, I like your shoes.  Yesterday he said, Aunt Mar, I really like your hair!    I know he is 4, but I don't care.  I hope he tells me what he thinks the rest of his life!!!!    Ha ha

Tonight we are going to an Oscar Party.  I only saw Les Miserable and Silver Linings Playbook and they both are up for Best Picture.  I wonder who the winners will be?

And so, for this day, I wish you an AWESOME DAY and an AMAZING LIFE.....  I hope you dance your way to the grand finale!  There is no Encore performance.....

Good Morning Everyone,

As much as I love my work with my students, I really didn't want to come to school today.  I am not feeling great.  A colleague actually thinks that I have something against her.  If she only knew how selfish I have been lately.  I am not even thinking of her.  (shhh)   I have my own things that I am going through.  I think it may have something to do with the need for nice weather.  I want to get out of the house and feel the warm temperatures.  Florida was truly a gift.  Thank you again, Joan and Robert.

I hope this feeling passes.  I am a much better giver than I am a taker.  Although I am not asking anyone for anything, I listen to my music a lot and play words with friends.  It makes me happy but I know I am less engaged in life.  I have discovered Pandora, an APP on the IPhone, and I am listening to ALL MY FAVORITE SONGS.   I love music.  My auditory sense is my absolute favorite.  I know I have said that 100 times.

Anyway, ENOUGH about me.  I am going to share some words of wisdom that are very inspiring....

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."~  Mother Teresa

(perhaps I should heed this advice with my colleague)

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal:  It is the courage to continue that counts."
~  Winston Churchill

" A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination." ~  Nelson Mandela

"Leaders aren't born, they are made.  They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal which is worthwhile."   ~ Vince Lombardi

" We gain strength and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face...we must do that which we think we cannot."   Eleanor Roosevelt

And so, if you have words of wisdom to impart, I am open to listening to your thoughts.  I continue to make good choices with my food and my clothing fits well,  two pant sizes smaller.   I look at food and say, nothing tastes as good as thin feels.    I hopefully will be able to wear all the smaller size clothing that hangs in my closet this spring and summer.  That would be a good feeling, and something to look forward to...right?

May you have all green lights as your travel on your journey, may all your favorite songs play on the radio, may you enjoy your favorite meal with someone you love, and may you hear the sound of laughter realizing that it is your own!   Smile!

Good Morning,

Another whirlwind time in my life.  We were in Naples Florida for 4 days with our friends, Joan and Robert.  What a wonderful time shared.  We danced, we had a spa day, we sailed on the Isle of Capri at sunset, and enjoyed the most delectable meals.  We shopped on 5th Avenue and thoroughly enjoyed every single minute.  We love Naples.

I said to Joan, life has a way of sucking you back in very quickly and now we are back to reality.
We had our Pride meeting yesterday and had a good turnout.  The guest speaker was Detective Hawthorn, my hero, who helped us tremendously with our burglary.  He was interesting, informative and by a unanimous consensus, everyone loved his talk.    I am so thankful.

I showed this video clip at the meeting yesterday about making a difference.  I bought a starfish at The Best Of Everything in Naples and hid it under a chair at the meeting.  I said, whoever finds it, is being invited, chosen to make a difference.  It was a very special moment in the meeting.

I will share the link to the video clip with you now.  It has been a while since I last posted, and I hope I am not repeating myself.  If I go back and check and it is already posted, well then, just remember, I am 51, and having a senior moment.

I gave a speech last week, on Breast Cancer at an AARP Meeting.  They invited me to become a member.  I should be thankful that they wanted me....Right?   All about perspective.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wuSaNCIde4

And so, please choose to make a difference in the world.  Be the change you wish to see in the world.

Good Morning Everyone,

Already the 4th day of February!  Spring is just around the corner!

In our school, we have two girls who are spreading positive messages around the building.  I took a picture of one of the messages to show you.   These girls were inspired to do this after their teacher spoke at our Pride meeting.  These girls are delightful, bright, caring and have a brilliant creative mind.  I want to encourage them on their journey to bring goodness to our school in every way possible.  They are a beacon of light and their light shines ever so brightly.

So here is the message.  Imagine if you were a teenager, perhaps having a negative message running through your mind and you saw this positive message.  I am confident that in that one moment in time, you would smile.

These girls, the creators of the positive messages are making me smile.  I acknowledged their goodness and will be surprising them throughout the remainder of the year with treats and reminders of their generosity of spirit.... Because what goes around comes around.

And so, my wish for you today is that you too find some way to brightens someones day.  It could make all the difference in their world.  Be an inspiration!

Good Morning All,

Yesterday was the tipping point for THE PRIDE, the club I started here at our high school, brought over from our sister school.  I am so excited to share the news.  Last week, a teacher here, was our guest speaker at our meeting.  Her topic was SMILE.  She was effective, gracious, engaging and everyone loved her.  Yesterday, in the girls bathroom, an index card was taped to the towel dispenser.  It said,

"YOU HONESTLY LOOK PERFECT, (as always),   SMILE about it!  :-)

The teacher who showed me this said, Marialyce, I think this is a result of THE PRIDE!  I think you are changing the culture in our school and helping others to see the positive side of everything.  Oh my goodness.

Later, at the end of the day, I stopped in to see a woman that I work closely with on THE PRIDE.  I was telling her about the bathroom note and a student overheard me because I was soooo excited!

He said, Mrs. Keane, can I show you something?   Look at this, on Facebook, someone started an online site that is entitled CB WEST COMPLIMENTS......  Everyone, please consider checking it out...  Our kids are posting complimentary, kind words about their peers and it is taking off like wild fire.    Oh I am so thankful.  Thankful that more people are smiling and feel worthy of the life they have been blessed with living.

In the book by Malcolm Gladwell, The Tipping Point, there is a point where an idea becomes an epidemic!  The idea takes off and becomes successful.   I believe yesterday, I was totally aware that the epidemic of kindness was spreading, it was happening in my life.

Thank You God!

And so, my wish for you today, is that you go to the site and view CB WEST COMPLIMENTS and see the positive affect of a club that is calling young people to their excellence, their greatness and challenging them to live an amazing life.

Good Morning Everyone,

"There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama
and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who
make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good.

"So, love the people who treat you right. Think good thoughts for
the ones who don't.

"Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part
of LIFE... Getting back up is LIVING..."

- Jose Harris

Here is a wonderful thought for today January 28, 2013....  The only January 28, 2013 that we are all going to get.  Carpe Diem!

And so, my wish for you today is that you.....  LIVE THIS DAY TO THE FULLEST.

Remember the 212 Degree Principle.  The difference between hot and boiling is only one degree.  The difference between good and great is only one degree.  Choose to push to just one more degree and see how magnificent you feel.

I am down 8 pounds.  And feeling strong.   I am excited about my new decision to take control of my eating and pay attention to my life.

I am seizing this day!   Whoo Hoo

Good Morning,

I have been stuck on this song all weekend.  I have to share this oldie, but OH SO GOODIE.  Even if you are not a Fanilow, you can't deny the melody and lyric are so sensual.    I also read this quote at the bottom of the youtube site.  I love this quote also....

"When you are in love you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."

And so, my wish for you is that you have this in your life.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I just read the best quote.  Ready?  "I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best."~
Oscar Wilde

I remember being criticized for being materialistic.  I didn't think that that was an accurate assessment of me, but I do like nice things.  I was confident in what I liked and disliked and could make decisions quickly.  I have always said that money was not my motivator.   Then someone said to me, it is not that you are materialistic, it is that you prefer to surround yourself with everything beautiful.  Now that was an assessment that I could agree with.  And beauty is in the eye of the beholder...~an English idiom.

As a 51 year old woman there are things that I learned about myself along the way.  I am wondering if you, too, wanted to know the answers to the following questions.  I am wondering if you have learned the answers to these questions.

Question one..... What colors look best on me.   I learned at the age of 30 that of all the colors of the seasons, I look best in the colors of Spring.  I am a Spring.  I went to Color Me Beautiful and they told me that with my light hair color, blue eyes and fair skin, that I would look elegant in ivory~head to toe ivory.  Blue green and salmon were other good choices.  Never to wear black/white or anything with cool undertones.  Warm, golden undertones are best and choose gold over silver when wearing jewelry.

Question two....  What style of clothing looks best on me.   I can't quite put this into words, I don't think, but I will try.  I prefer high heels, and dresses/skirts and I love to get dressed up wearing jackets and nice pants or nice jeans and boots as opposed to sneakers and sweat pants.  I love to feel feminine.  I prefer dressy casual, as opposed to very casual.

Question three....  What perfume smells the best on me.  I remember when I was a teenager.  I wore Halston perfume.  My Dad said, what is the name of the perfume you are wearing.  I said, Oh, It's Halston Daddy.  He looked at me and said, don't wear that again.  It does not smell good on you.   Wow.  Guess what, I trusted his judgement and never wore that again.   Years later, when he came to live with me, he used to tell me from time to time that I smelled good.  I have worn Tresor` by Lancome` for the past 18 years.  I can not tell  you the number of compliments that I have received, over the years.  Tresor` is my perfume.  I never wear anything else.  I sometimes forget and wear perfume to school.  I don't want to offend anyone I work with and I know that sometimes, people are sensitive to smells, namely my students.  It is funny though, because when I forget, and wear perfume, my students will say, Mrs. Keane you smell so good.  ( Smiling here.)   And one of the best compliments I ever received was from Veronica Hilferty when she was 7 years old.  She is 18 today.  She said, after giving me a hug, Mrs. Keane you always have the sweetest smell.   Oh my ....  brings tears to my eyes, eleven years later.   Wow!

Question four....  What haircut is right for my face shape.  When I was first married I went to Bob's Hair Design in Philadelphia.  Bob always gave the best haircut.  However, as we had children and I wanted to stay home with them, my priorities changed and I found other hairdressers that were less expensive.  For the last 27 years, I have been searching for the best hair style for me!   I decided about a month ago, that I would go back to Bob's and tell him that I wanted the hair style that was right for me.  He remembered me.  I said, Bob, I want my hair to be healthy and to have body and I want to feel sexy with this hair style.  He smiled.  He said, OK....and guess what....I now have the right hair style for me.  I love it...I have called him twice to thank him for KNOWING and being able to CREATE his magic on me.   OH it is a wonderful feeling to know your hair style is right for you.

Question five.... What nail polish color is right for me.   This was a decision that I made years ago.  I learned that even though nail color is all about preference, everything is about preference.  My favorite is a french manicure.  I love the cleanliness and the manner in which it coordinates with all styles and colors of clothing.  I feel classy when my nails are painted with a french manicure.

I feel, that at this age, I have finally come to know who I am and like myself.  I am confident in how I think and behave and dress and conduct myself.  It has been a journey, an awakening.  I love being a woman and all that that entails.  Being confident in my femininity means that I am fearless to anything that comes my way.  It feels good to be 51 years old.

Now if I can continue with my willpower and plan to lose weight in this year then I will feel like a  champion.  My doctor, Beth Du Pree has encouraged me to lose weight and for the last 3 weeks, I have been doing extremely well.  It is all about making conscious choices about what I put into my mouth.  Years ago, Jenny Craig had a slogan, "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels."   That mantra resonated with me then and it continues to do so today.    I keep thinking to myself, I will feel energized and free if I can just choose to make wise decisions one bite at a time.

So this year is once again full of challenges for me.  I love a challenge.  I am good at meeting my personal challenges.  I'll keep you posted on how I am progressing.  In the meantime...stay tuned!

And so, my wish for you this evening is that you are able to answer your own questions of the heart, whatever they may be.  Because what I have learned in these past few years, is the moral of the Wizard of Oz.  Everything you are seeking externally, you already possess internally.  You have everything you need in order to succeed in life.

En `Joy,

Marialyce

Good Morning Everyone,

On Tuesday, I had a Council Meeting with my club officers.  What an enlightening meeting.  We share about our actions, choices and feelings and this one young woman had us all moved to tears.  She spoke of her benevolence toward the homeless in Philadelphia.  I am telling you, that I am surrounded by such strong people.  I am truly thankful that God puts people in my life, so that I can learn and grow and become stronger.   Yesterday morning at 5 AM I awakened and thought, I need to put a hero bag together for her.  I want to go into school and tell everyone in one of her classes that there is a hero in their midst.  So First Block, I went to her classroom and gave the following presentation.  She has not sought me out, so I really do not know if she was displeased or pleased with my commendation, but I just could not pass up the opportunity to celebrate her, her compassion, her spirit.  She is a remarkable, exceptional human being.  Her Physics teacher said, How can I possibly teach after that presentation.  Outstanding!   I said, Oh you most certainly can. Mr. Finkbiner you are a seasoned teacher, a Master teacher!  But thank you for your kind words.

Good Morning,
My name is Mrs. Keane;  I work in the Special Ed Department here at CB West.

Courage is not the absence of fear, but moving forward in action toward your goal, despite your fear.  One is brave when they choose an action, in spite of being afraid to do it.  They choose to do it anyway.
I am here because I want to honor one among you.  Someone in this classroom leads by example.  They are a champion.  A champion is someone who does something that no one else can do.

Yesterday, a story was shared with me and I was so moved by the story that I just could not allow the moment to pass without acknowledging, JW.     J, what you do for those less fortunate than all of us,  how you manifest your spirit of generosity  in spite of your fear and accomplish your goal is something that makes your inner light shine the brightest.
By going outside your comfort zone, and doing humanitarian deeds, you become a beacon of light.

J, I just want you to know that I respect you, I admire you and I hope to be like you.  I want to honor your goodness and kindness toward humanity.
Can we all please give a round of applause to JW who has the compassion and constitutional strength of a true hero!!!!

Thank you, Mr. Finkbiner for allowing me this moment and  for your time, this morning.

And so, my wish for you this morning is that you have courage to overcome your challenges in life.

En`Joy,

Good Evening My Friends,

I received this story, The Starfish Story and I am sharing it with you.  Paul Taubman III was the gentleman who sent it to me.

Some time ago, a writer with a long and successful career built a magnificent home on the coast of Oregon. It was his ritual each morning to rise and climb the winding staircase to his studio that faced the beach. There he would sit, gazing out of a huge picture window, silently drawing inspiration from the ever-changing wonder of the sunrise. Enriched by the beauty and serenity, he would then begin to write.
One morning the writer awoke as usual. headed upstairs, and began his quiet meditation. The sun was just coming up and a soft mist hung over the shore. As he gazed out at the beach, he was transfixed by what looked like a mystical dance, far off in the distance. He found himself completely fascinated as he tried to make out what it was; soon he could think of nothing else. After a short time his curiosity overpowered him; he simply had to know what it was. He put on his coat and began to walk down the beach toward the mysterious figure.
As he drew nearer he could see that the ‘dancer’ was a young girl, around eleven or twelve years old. Again and again she bent down to grasp something from the sand, then ran out into the waves. She moved gracefully and purposefully. When the writer drew very close, he realized what she was doing. One by one, she was throwing starfish into the sea.
As the writer looked down the beach, he saw that thousands of these beautiful creatures had been washed up on the shore. He approached the young girl and said, “Good morning.” Quietly she returned his greeting. Then he asked her, “What are you doing?”
As she pointed toward the sunrise, the girl said simply, “The sun is coming up and the tide is going out. If I don’t pick these starfish up and throw them into the water, they’ll die.”
In his wisdom, the old man looked down at the girl and shook his head slowly as she reached for another starfish. “Young lady,” he said, “there are thousands of starfish and just one of you. Don’t you see that you can’t possibly make a difference?”
Briefly, the girl looked up into his eyes, then bent over again, grabbed a starfish, and flung it into the sea. As she passed him on her way back up the beach, she stopped for just a moment. With a gentle smile she assured him, “I made a difference for that one."

Today I had my meeting of The Pride Council.  The leaders of our club.  As we discussed all the topics on our agenda, I thought, I really hope that this club, The Pride, will help you in your life, to choose excellence and to live an amazing life.  Life is hard sometimes, and we all need a reminder every now and then that we are valued, important and needed.

I want you to know, that I am most grateful for the time you take to read my blog.  My goal is for the people in my life to know that they are valued, important and needed.

And so, my wish for you, is that you consciously choose to make a difference in someone's life everyday.  I love my Pride kids.  They surely make a difference in my life, everyday.  I hope they can say the same.

Good Evening Dear Friends,

Did you know that Januaray is Thank You Month.  Yes, indeed it is.  The art of saying Thank You is celebrated in the month of January.  My students read a weekly journal entitled, News 2 You.  Featured in last weeks journal was the headline, January is Thank You Month.  I am so thankful that I now know this because January is my birth month and I am committed for the rest of my life to living a life of gratitude and service.

As I have shared with you in the past, I receive Your Gratitude Burst everyday in an email.  Today's gratitude burst is:

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did.  So throw off the bowlines.  Sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the trade-winds in your sails.  Explore.  Dream.  Discover.

~Mark Twain

The following message is from Paul Taubman:

"Have you ever noticed how good you feel when you accomplish something?  You will feel satisfied, you will feel grateful, you will feel fulfilled and you will feel like you accomplished something when you get to check something off your list.  It doesn't haave to be a life long dream (but how awesome is it when you accomplish that?); it can be a simple errand, task or a chore you have assigned to the day.  Go out and start your week by doing something that will help you feel more gratitude."

And so, my wish for you this day is that you have more than one thing in your life to be thankful for and I hope you write it down.  Everyday, I write down a kindness that someone shared with me, a kind word, a thoughtful deed, a gentle action.  It brightens my world.

Good Evening Everyone,

Happy New Year!   I realize that it has been almost 2 weeks since my last post.  I am sorry for my lack of attention to this blog and to you.

On January 1, 2013 we had the most wonderful dinner at Tim and Anita's.  We have our traditional, pork and kielbasi, sauerkraut and potato dinner, followed by watching CNN Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper, their New Years Eve Broadcast.  They are hilarious together, so irreverent and comedic.  We love watching the DVR of that show.  Laughter fills the room, and on this night, Anita arrived with a beautiful cake and I got to make so many wishes.  I am grateful for their thoughtfulness and generosity.

On Wednesday, my birthday, I returned to school after our long break.   I arrived in our classroom and the students all yelled surprise.  Tina, my friend, brought in bagels, cream cheese and butter for all.  There was a beautiful table cloth that said "Another Year of Fabulous."   I love surprises.  This was a really wonderful surprise. Tina had a beautiful gift wrapped for me.  Inside was a CD of Flo Rida Wild Ones.... I have played it every day on my way to and from work since I received this gift.  I love it...  It gives me energy.  Oh Thank you Tina for making me feel so very special.  You are a gem.
Later in the day, Tina came back with a cake and the kids all sang to me again.  It was the most fun!    When I arrived home we got Chipotle for dinner followed by an Angel food cake and candles,  more wishes and the grand finale, my gift.  I received tickets to see Pink in concert at Madison Square Garden on March 22.  So Raise Your Glass......................

On Saturday, January 5, 2013 we went to see Les Miserable the movie.  What an outstanding performance.  The music was exquisite and Anne Hathaway surely will win an Oscar for her performance as Fantine.  Beautiful beautiful show.  Our Christmas decorations are down and the house looks barren...  It is the winter and all of us eagerly anticipate the arrival of Spring.

On January 7, 2013 Rickelle Borowy, our burglar, plead guilty in court to receiving stolen property.  She was charged with this crime and sentenced to 3 years probation.  If her urine sample turns  up dirty then the sentence will revert to jail time.  I gave my victims statement and the judge told Ms. Borowy, there is no way I could adequately articulate the  sentiments that Mrs. Keane expressed here today.  My Detective Ken Hawthorn told me, Marialyce, when a judge renders his decision, that is his moment to come down on a defendant.  Judge Finley just acquiesced to you, empowering you, and commending you for a well versed statement.  You should feel very proud.   I felt thankful that it was over, and truly await Rickelle's fall from grace again.  I think she is an ineffective human being and should be held accountable doing time, for her wrongdoings.  I think she has been enabled her whole life and continues to get away with everything.  Her life is a terrible hot mess.

This past week was chock full of illness.  We were all coughing and sneezing and trying not to infect others.  This was a challenging week in school.  The students learned the term "dropping like flies"  They thought that was pretty funny.

On Saturday, yesterday, my friend Sharon and I went to the Olive Garden for my birthday lunch. We had the most wonderful time.  Five hours later we departed as the dinner crew started arriving.  I don't think I remember having such a wonderful time with my Sharon.  Today, Claire Perry, Shawn's friend came by with Leo her beautiful son.  Leo is 18 days old and so cute.  Lindsay and I kept looking at the baby and then looking at each other.  He is just adorable, and so bright and alert.  Leo is solid and didn't cry the entire time he was here.   He is greatly loved.

My New Years Resolution is to eat more healthily.  My pants are looser and I feel more in control of my choices.  I hope that I can be proud of my body, feeling confident and healthy in 2013.

I had one last surprise.  Chris Noon from the Slippery Band called me and gave me tickets to a benefit at Knowlton Mansion right near where I grew up in Philadelphia.  The Slippery Band is playing a  benefit for Autism Awareness and we will be guests that evening.  I can't wait to put my dancing shoes on and dance the night away.  Oh the joy of dancing to the Phenomenal Slippery Band once more!

And so, my wish for you this evening is that you have a special surprise coming your way this week.  That you anticipate the surprise, as I anticipate dancing and shaking the tambourine.   And that whatever your wishes are in this New Year I hope that they come true.
Wishing you a year of magical moments, blue moments, moments that take your breath away.

With Love,
En` Joy,

Marialyce
